Side projects — We all start them; now let’s finish one with SwiftUI
Who hasn’t started a personal project and abandoned it halfway through? I have several. I would begin full of enthusiasm, then stop touching the repository after a month. Lack of determination? Laziness? No time? Did it get harder than expected? These thoughts come up when working on personal projects: in your free time, you want to learn something new rather than add to the challenges you already face at work. So I’m trying again, with a side project I hope to keep going and learn from, on a topic I really enjoy studying. I hope to share the challenge every week!
Since I haven’t finished a personal project before, this time I’m treating it as a mission. You’re all witnesses: I won’t give up halfway through, and you can hold me to that!
This week I saw Txai’s tweet about starting side projects and never finishing them. Inspired by it, I looked for something that complemented my studies and found this repository, which recreates apps in SwiftUI. Its first project appears to be Spotify, and it looked great. That seemed like a good idea to try myself.
I considered starting with Apple Music, but Airbnb also looks interesting and fits what I’ve been learning in Meng To’s course.
The first step is to create a new project. For now, I’ll share the initial setup and a GIF of Airbnb’s home screen. I expect to make more progress on the layout during the week.
Baby steps, so I don’t rush into it again!
You can follow the project here. Let’s see this mission through!
See you next week!
